Mtech Ventures company profile: HighT-Tech

High-temperature heating platform for rapidly sintering metals, ceramics, and other materials for a wide application of technologies, including solid-state batteries, in an environmentally friendly way

HighT-Tech has developed a proprietary heating platform, based on ultrafast high-temperature sintering (UHS), that achieves temperatures up to 3,000 C in seconds, enabling the rapid sintering of metals and ceramics. The company’s platform offers high heating and cooling rates, and even temperature distribution. Combined, these processes require fewer than ten seconds of total processing time–more than 1,000 times faster than the traditional furnace approach of Sintering.

Potential Applications: solid-state batteries, solid-state electrolyzers for hydrogen production, new environmental thermal barrier coatings, catalysts, and smart alloy coatings

Funding: $21 million in federal research funding

Intellectual Property: 20 patents issued or pending

Founder: HighT-Tech was launched by Liangbing Hu, Distinguished University Professor, University of Maryland, whose research formed the basis of the company.

Programs: Mtech Ventures, Maryland Momentum Fund, Maryland Discovery Fund, Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator
